BERNAT LÓPEZ / ©XTREM FOOTBALLFinally the rumors have been confirmed: Corinthians has really launched a jersey dedicated to Ayrton Senna, a great supporter of the Timão. An absolutely unique item already available in the official online store of the Brazilian club.

Nike Football, in collaboration with the Ayrton Senna Institute, has made Corinthians 3rd shirt in tribute to the great F1 champion, 30 years after the victory of his first title. Another great initiative by the Timão, who already in 2014, to remember the 20 years of the death of his great supporter, had decided to wear yellow helmets before a Brazilian cup match.

The new shirt presents on a black background 41 horizontal gold stripes, as many were the victories in Formula 1. The colors that have been chosen instead recall those of the Lotus with here it competed between 1985 and 1986.

Ayrton Senna won three Formula One world championships for McLaren in 1988, 1990 and 1991, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time.During his career, Senna was linked with football in a few ways. A strong connection between the pilot and the beautiful game was forged in 1986, when the driver won the Detroit GP and raised the Brazilian flag for the first time inside his cockpit. It was one of the highpoints of his career, and the gesture epitomized Senna’s pride in being Brazilian. Just like very football fan in the country, he was sad about the national squad’s loss to France in the World Cup, one day earlier.

As a Lotus-Renault driver, Senna made sure to display his national pride in front of the French members of his team, who teased him mercilessly after the Brazilian squad was taken out of the tournament in a penalty shoot-out, after a final score of 1-1 in the regular match. Two years later, in 1988, Senna decided to take part in a football match in Bali, Indonesia, where He was celebrating his first F1 world title, won in Japan the week before. The driver tried being a goalkeeper and… Let’s just say it didn’t turn out that great! The Brazilian champ got his wrist sprained!
