BERNAT LÓPEZ / ©XTREM FOOTBALLWhile his Qatari club Al-Sadd fell to a defeat in the first leg of their Asian Champions League semi-final against Persepolis of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Xavi ended up making an iconic record. The match which took place on Tuesday marked the Barcelona’s legend’s 100th appearance for Al-Sadd and his performance over the century has been not short of mind boggling.
Over the course of his century of appearances, the World Cup winner has gone on to provide as many as 65 assists and has himself scored 22 goals. Xavi, who came right through the Barcelona academy and captained the side, went on to win 25 honours for the club and even captained his beloved Blaugrana.
While Xavi was always known for his vision in passing and providing assists to his teammates, he wasn’t much involved in goal scoring at Barcelona. As reported by Mundial11.com, with his recent appearance for Al-Sadd, the former La Masia graduate has also achieved the accolade of becoming Spain’s longest serving player as part of an Arabic team.
After his last match, the Maestro achieved another astonishing record: he surpassed the 1000 games as a pro: 767 for FC Barcelona, 133 international caps for Spain and 100 appearances for Al Sadd. Simply amazing Xavi!
