FC Barcelona qualified for the Champions League knockout rounds despite conceding a late equaliser as they drew 1-1 with Inter at the San Siro on Tuesday. Malcom came off the bench to give Barça the lead with seven minutes remaining, firing under Samir Handanovic after being sent clear by Philippe Coutinho.

It was Barça’s 25th shot of the game and it looked like it would be enough to earn them the three points until Mauro Icardi scored an 87th-minute equaliser after some slack defending.

Blaugranas goal, when it arrived, came courtesy of substitute Malcom, who had actually only been introduced in place of Ousmane Dembele2 minutes earlier. The Brazilian was set free down the right by the superb Philippe Coutinho, before cutting inside Kwadwo Asamoah and unleashing an unstoppable left-footed strike past Handanovic in the Inter goal.

And Malcom, who has endured a nightmare debut campaign with the La Liga champions to this point on his way to a grand total of 25 minutes on the pitch, saw his emotions immediately take over during his celebration, with the young attacker having broken down in tears as he was mobbed by Blaugrana teammates.

After the game, Malcom said that “playing for Barça was my dream as a kid” and assured that “making my debut in the Champions League and scoring will stay in my memory forever”.

Malcom also had some words for his teammates: “I have to thank the group for giving me confidence and encouraging me to keep showing the coach what I can do”. Asked about a possible January move, he was clear: “My dream with Barça is just starting. My dream is to make history and to do big things. I have to thank the group for showing confidence in me”.
