FC St.Pauli fans: the coolest people in Germany – PORTRAIT OF THE DAY #104
FC St. Pauli is the most left-wing team in the world. The 2nd division Hamburg club has a unique vision of football. St. Pauli is cool, just like Mr Klaus Hornig. Better known as Pauli-Klaus, this man is the most faithful St. Pauli’s fan. He’s from Dublin, but has been a St.Pauli member for 55 years. Klaus apartment is a St. Pauli museum, and he works as a gardener in a football pitch. Our special guest is a humble man, like most of St.Pauli’s fans. Lots of St.Pauli supporters are from Reeperbahn, one of Europe’s biggest red-light districts. In 1980’s anarchists, prostitutes & punks started filling the Millerntor Stadium. Nowadays, the club fans launch anti-racism & anti-homophobia campaigns, and they’ve been a vocal part of Germany’s ‘Refugees Welcome’ movement. Cool!
