Manchester United’s deal to sign Alexis Sanchez is worth around £180 million after the forward agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract. According to The Telegraph, the 29 year-old will be paid £14m a year after tax – just under £27m a year before tax – to join United, on top of his £30m valuation, £20m signing-on fee, and an agents’ fee worth more than £10m.

The Chile forward, 29, will become the club’s best-paid player on almost £600.000 a week – a basic wage of £350.000, £100.000 image rights and £144.000 in bonuses. With his arrival to Old Trafford, Paul Pogba (£290.000 a week) will be surpassed as the salary King.

Sanchez had a medical test at United’s Carrington training complex on Sunday afternoon after he arrived at Manchester Airport via private jet. It is believed club photographers have taken the unveiling images of the forward, including some snapshots at the airport.

Red Devils announced the addition of Alexis just after Arsenal revealed the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a straight swap deal. Alexis arrived at The Lowry Hotel on Sunday evening and should train with his new teammates today. United manager Jose Mourinho gave his players two days off following the Premier League triumph at Burnley on Saturday.

After the last match, the Portuguese manager revealed that the deal was close. “I expect soon, or never”, The Special One said. “I think it is so close. So close. I am positive. I know that my people are doing absolutely everything they can. The owners with the green light, I think everybody is doing everything they can. I think we are going to be successful”, he added.
